The compact overview reveals how consistently Dudler has systematically developed his conceptual approach out of the history of architecture. The son of a Swiss stonemason and a student of Oswald Mathias Ungers, Dudler's continuous engagement with the European city has assured him a standing as one of the most distinctive and independent of the German-speaking architects. His many projects are each illustrated here on two to six pages of images, drawings, historical references, and model views, with accompanying explanatory texts.

Among the featured works are the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development, Berlin, Museum Ritter, Waldenbuch, the celebrated Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm Center, Berlin, the visitors' center at Heidelberg Castle, and the conversion of the Hambach Castle.

MaxDudlerwas born in Al ten rhein in Switzerland. He studiedarchitecture at the Städelschule in Frankfurt/Main under Prof.Günther Bock, and at the University of the Arts in Berlin underProf. Ludwig Leo.He was a project architect in the studio of Oswald Mathias  Un-gers, before he established his own firm with Karl Dudler andPete Wellbergen in 1986. Since 1992  he has been the executivemanager of his office, with subsidiaries in Berlin, Zurich an Frank-furt/Main. After having been  a lecturer and visiting professor inVenice, Mantua Dortmund, Vienna, and other places, Max Dudlerwas appointed Professor for Architecture at the Academy of ArtsDusseldorf in 2004.
