For the tourism industry, it has become a year-round travel destination, aimed at outdoor enthusiasts as well as visitors interested in local culture. The range of hotel services is equallyt international - but often, all too conforming in terms of design. Yet, the examples exist that " draw their identity from a diligent deliberation on the local context and traditions and have produced a corresponding contemporary language of forms" , as Claudia Fuchs concludes in her essay on "New Hotel Architecture in South Tirol".

The projects in this issue of Detail Inside on hotels and holiday homes demonstrate this fact. In Montreal, ACDF Architecture orchestrate a thrilling dialogue between the Hotel Monville and the contextual features of its surroundings.

Sugawaradaisuke Architects conceptualize a holiday home in Nagano, Japan - with a tiny space, yet with sophisticated views to the exterior.

Aebi & Vincent Architekten demonstrate how a building ensemle from the 1950s was carefully renovated and expanded by creating an addition to the youth hostel in Bern.
