The publication 'Infinite Sketches' showcases drawings made by Ivo Brouwer between 2022 and 2023 with the work in progress typeface Infinite and its supporting tools.
This colorful booklet features sketches the author created using the Infinite typeface he designed. Text is usually represented by letters, but Infinite Sketches demonstrates that a typeface can also be used to create illustrations using programming language. This resulted in twelve spreads with mesmerizing patterns in eleven riso colors, printed by Stencilwerck in The Hague. These abstract "illustrations" leave the reader wondering: is this text or texture? Immerse yourself in a world of color and form created at the intersection of digital and analog. A nice detail: the folded cover that can also serve as a poster.
Ivo Brouwer is a type and graphic artist based in The Hague. His work compiles of experimental type, calligraphy and graphic patterns that exhibits what is between physical and digital work. He holds a Master's degree in Type Design from KABK Royal Academy of Arts The Hague. In 2022, he received a fund for Talent Development by the Creative Industries Fund NL. Next to being an independent artist and designer, he is a teacher at the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht and part of the artist collective High on Type.
