IABR–DOWN TO EARTH: THE BIBLIOGRAPHY

IABR. DOWN TO EARTH. THE BIBLIOGRAPHY

IABR–DOWN TO EARTH: THE BIBLIOGRAPHY

The name of the 9th edition of the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam, DOWN TO EARTH, is derived from the title of the English translation of the book Où aterrir? by Bruno Latour. In it, the French philosopher argues that this is now inescapably our new political, social, and cultural challenge: to redefine all our actions as that which takes us back to Earth. Where, indeed, can we land? Can we resettle, as it were, on planet Earth, in a sustainable balance with other life forms and at one with nature?

Many excellent books have been published on the issues and challenges addressed in this biennale, on economics and ecology, on politics and philosophy, and of course on design. DOWN TO EARTH: THE BIBLIOGRAPHY consists of some 60 books that inspired Brugmans and co-curator Thijs van Spaandonk.

On 9 June 2021, the exhibitions RECLAIMING THE COMMONS and WATERSCHOOL M4H+ will open in Merwe-Vierhavens in Rotterdam, and on 3 July the exhibition THE HIGH GROUND will open in the Biesboschhal in Dordrecht. For more information and how to book a time slot, click here.
