A new generation of architects is working on an optimistic vision of the future. Committed and pragmatic solutions to social issues

The turnover of the Dutch firms of architects is falling dramatically, but their number is increasing. A growing number of young designers are taking matters into their own hands in order to formulate a response to social challenges using the resources of architecture. They embrace a new reality in which users, residents and clients become partners. In the new social and financial context of the twenty-first century, a group of young Dutch architects and urban designers are coming up with new ideas about their profession. Vacant property, processual urban design, investment standstills, social contradictions, petrified organisations, environmental demands - this generation is investigating the conceptual possibilities of the new reality.

They are becoming developer and entrepreneur, creating their own commission situations, forming new cooperatives and providing ideas that are both inspiring and also practically applicable and feasible in difficult financial times.
