'Aldo & Hannie van Eyck. Excess of Architecture' presents 24 projects by two of the most influential figures in Dutch Structuralism.

Featuring analytical drawings, archival material and photographs by Bas Princen, the book offers a fresh perspective on their architecture, from celebrated classics to lesser-known late works.

Aldo and Hannie van Eyck belong to the most influential voices in post-war Dutch architecture. Best known for their human-centred approach to design and their central role in the development of Structuralism, they challenged the functionalist orthodoxy of modern architecture by placing social interaction, participation and spatial experience at the heart of their work.

Part of the acclaimed 'Everything Without Content' series edited by Kersten Geers, this publication presents twenty-four projects through a carefully curated collection of plans, sections, elevations and photographs. Drawings produced by students of the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio are paired with new photography by Bas Princen, offering an analytical reading of the Van Eycks' architectural legacy. The selection spans both their canonical projects and their lesser-known later work, revealing a broader and more nuanced understanding of their oeuvre.

Few architects have shaped the international perception of Dutch architecture as profoundly as Aldo van Eyck. As a key member of Team 10 and one of the leading protagonists of Structuralism, he advocated for an architecture that embraced complexity, human relationships and collective life. Together with Hannie van Eyck, he developed buildings that sought to bridge the gap between individual experience and larger social structures.

What makes this publication particularly valuable is its focus on the architecture itself. Rather than presenting a conventional monograph, the book allows readers to study projects through drawings and spatial analysis. The result is an insightful resource for architects, students and researchers interested in Dutch Structuralism, Team 10 and the evolution of post-war architectural thought.
