What does the 21st century garden look like? Kunstvereniging Diepenheim invited four artists: Jeroen Kooijmans, Birthe Leemeijer, Jimini Hignett & Doris Denekamp and Edward Clydesdale Thomson to make a design of their future garden.

This resulted in four gardens named like this: Three Garden, Garden Fence, The Unlimited Garden and If Bees are Few…All four art projects are momentarily being realized in little town of Diepenheim and its surroundings. In Non Urban Garden. Gardens of the 21st century, the projects are being presented to the public for the first time.

At the same time five experts on landscape-art and landscape-design: philosopher Ann Meskens, Professor Culture, Landscape and Nature Erik de Jong; Landscape architect Saskia de Wit and garden designer Piet Oudolf were asked to write an essay on the future of urban and non urban garden design and reflect on the possible implications of the four projects presented in the book. Peter Sonderen, Art Theory Professor at ArtEz, writes on the artistic research of the four artists.
