The Netherlands is unique in that architects already have the chance to actually realize buildings at a young age. In that respect the Dutch situation is distinct from that in other countries; a fact that still causes more of a stir abroad than in the Netherlands itself. The Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAI) underscored this fact by awarding the first NAI Prize in 2002. It was awarded to the best building realized by an architects under 40 years of age. MVRDV won the prize for its houses at Hageneiland in the Vinex district of Ypenburg. With AM (Amstelland MDC) property developers as sponsor and financial partner, the NAI will once again be awarding the prize under the title AM-NAI Prize 2004.

Fresher Facts presents the four nominated projects in detail and explains the context in which these four buildings were created. Features: The BasketBar by NL Architects, the Posbank by SeARCH, the FastFerry by DaF-architecten and Schit 1+2 of the Ciboga site by S333 Architecture+Urbanism

As with the book accompanying the first edition of the prize, contributions by various members of the jury, including Ole Bouman, Anna Tilroe, Herman Hertzberger, Bernard Tschumi and Aaron Betsky, present a snapshot of the work of the youngest generation of architects and a benchmark for Dutch architecture still to come.
