In Built Environment 2013-2014, the faculty of TU Eindhoven’s department of Built Environment/ Architecture presents a selection of the best graduation projects, with comments by experts from both within and outside the faculty.
TU Eindhoven’s Architecture department stands for an interdisciplinary way of studying. In this yearbook, alumnus David Gianotten features as a role model of what this way of studying can mean in practice. Gianotten leads the OMA office in Hong Kong. Results and demonstrations of various methods of research play the main role here: sustainable transformation, smart cities, and quality of life. In the case of architecture and urban planning, the research is conducted within the framework of a graduate workshop with a specific theme/topic. In this book, the research conducted in all the graduate studios is described by the teachers, and is also illustrated with one or two projects.

These research projects – in fields ranging from building physics, building management, structural design, planning, and system design – are determined by the themes that the staff and the PhD students are working on, and from which sub-themes are elaborated upon in individual graduation projects.
