White is the very symbol of purity, light and minimalistic perfection. Be it white on the inside or the outside, the contemporary Japanese houses presented in this unique, never-before-seen collection show the wildest possibilities of how one can live in a private space.

In the book White Houses, a wide variety of white Japanese houses are profiled. All of the featured projects are unusual and innovative, using space in new ways so that the idea of living space is approached from an entirely new angle.
Projects included are: Clover House, Reflection of Mineral, Slope Office House, House in Otake, White Court House, Sunflower House, and many more.

The author, Chua Yen Ping, is a mathematics professor by trade with a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from the University of Tokyo, but has become intrigued by architecture over the years. With her growing interest has come growing knowledge, as evidenced by her incisive questions and insight into the houses featured in this volume.

The photography for White Houses was done by Sergio Pirrone, a world-renowned architectural photographer. Pirrone has an extensive background in architecture, being a certified architect and having worked for David Chipperfield Architects in London and Shigeru Ban Architects in Tokyo before moving on to focus entirely on architectural photography. In 2004, Pirrone and Yen Ping co-founded Sergio Pirrone Photojournalism LLP. Pirrone's images benefit from his in-depth experiential understanding of the angles, light and spaces used in these architectural masterpieces.
