The German state of Thuringia has 2,000 church buildings, of which 500 stand vacant, reflecting a general decline in European church membership. On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, 500 Churches, 500 Ideaspresents proposals for transforming these vacancies into new public spaces.
